- Herbal positioning. Herbal and botanical extracts feature heavily in Korean hair care marketing, and the scent profile usually reflects that — greener and less sweet than the fruit-and-vanilla registers common in Western supermarket shampoo.
- Moderate lather. Formulations often lather less dramatically than heavily sulfated Western shampoos. As with toothpaste, foam volume is a poor proxy for anything, but it’s the first thing people notice.

- Wet the hair thoroughly first. A full thirty seconds under water before any product goes on. Shampoo applied to under-wetted hair distributes badly and you end up using more.
- Use less than you think. A coin-sized amount for short hair, up to roughly a walnut for long or thick hair. If you have a lot of hair, two small applications work better than one large one.
- Work it into the scalp, not the lengths. The scalp is where oil and product build up. The lengths get cleaned by the shampoo running down them during rinsing.
- Use your fingertips, not your nails. Massage for thirty seconds or so.
- Rinse for longer than feels necessary. Incomplete rinsing is the most common cause of hair feeling heavy or dull afterwards.
